Asus Zenbook 3 First Look Video on Hand Review

Asus pulled the wraps off of its MacBook rival at Computex 2016, touting the Ultrabook weighs in at a scant 2 pounds and 11.9mm (0.46-inches) thick. By comparison, the Apple MacBook .51-inches (13.1mm) tall and tips the scales at 2.03 pounds (0.92kg).

The weighting and thickness reductions are even more striking when you consider the previous ZenBook UX305 weighed 2.64 pounds and was 12.9mm thick (0.51-inches).

Despite scaling down the weight and size of the ZenBook, the model 3 is a powerhouse thanks to an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB PCIe SSD.

Asus hasn't skimped on the premium built quality either. The 12.5-inch screen is covered by a big sheet of Gorilla Glass 4 and the body of the laptop itself is made from "aerospace-grade aluminum alloy," which the electronics firm claims to be 40 percent than most other laptops.

As for making it so thin, Asus explains it developed the world's thinnest 3mm fan to keep the laptop's Core I-series processor cool while keeping it incredibly thin. Oh and it has a fingerprint scanner for good measure and letting users sign in with Windows Hello.

The ZenBook 3 also utilizes a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port for charging to top off an empty machine back to 60% in 49 minutes. What's more, Asus claims users can expect nine hours of usage.

Surprisingly all of these premium features come with an affordable price tag. The ZenBook 3 starts at only $999 with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. That said, the cost goes up to a more significant $1,499 with the 512GB SSD upgrade.

Smartphone can be curled without affecting screen quality : Korean Researcher

The industry's push to make smartphones cooler and lighter is another step closer to reality.

Local researchers have developed technology that allows screens to be folded easily and in a way that doesn't affect display quality.

Local korean researchers develop folding screens that don't sacrifice display quality. 

How could smartphones look in the future?

Perhaps the screen could curl as if made out of paper making it lighter and easier to carry.

That future may be closer than we think.

A local research group says it has developed a core technology that could make displays fold easily by using transparent rubber that has a web of electrodes on the areas that fold.
That way the display quality would remain the same when folded, and it would not leave a scratch when unfolded again.

"We've placed the electrodes at the bridges connecting the displays so it could increase the elasticity of the folding screens."

The expert adds the technology could also help developers to create large displays by connecting smaller screens without producing blind spots that typically affect larger displays.
He says the tech could also be useful in the development of wearable devices.

Look at This Smartphone Is Basically A Slap Bracelet

Hold up — the slap bracelet of you, youth is making a major 21st-century comeback. Imagine taking your smartphone, slapping it around your wrist, and then heading out the door. Crazy? Yes. Real? Very soon. 

According to Bloomberg, the startup Moxi Group has created a rollable touchscreen phone that will be available in China later this year for $765. It will be the first commercially available phone with a bendable, flexible screen. 

The phone is able to bend thanks to graphene, a super-strong, conductive, and flexible material that can be used to make rubber more elastic, among other uses. This phone builds on developments Samsung made back in 2014, when it found a way to produce graphene on a mass-market scale. This Moxi phone, however, will be the first fully bendable smartphone available for purchase.

But it's got one major caveat: To start, the phone will have a black-and-white e-ink display, which is similar to an e-reader's screen. So, while it may be convenient for checking texts and emails, it's not going to be your go-to for Snapchatting or watching videos. With that in mind, experts that spoke to Bloomberg are skeptical that it'll be a success. 

Regardless, the phone will be a breakthrough and a novelty. The company will consider shipping a version overseas if it ends up doing well in China.

‘MotoMods’ Modular Accessories for Moto Phones Leaked

MotoZ's MotoMods Leaked News

Just earlier we saw leaked renderings of the upcoming model Moto Z (or maybe a Motorola DROID phone for Verizon). On the backside of the phones, in the back side we identify a series of small holes which was assumed to be a dock connector where users could plug in various modular accessories for the phone.

Now thanks to newly leaked renders courtesy of Evan Blass, we have an idea of what the upcoming accessories for the new Motorola phones will look like. As for their name, Blass has referred to them as MotoMods. We’re not sure if this is something he thought up by himself, or if it is the actual name, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see.

As far as we can tell, there are three different accessories to choose from. The most prominent would be the camera add-on which comes with a flash unit, lens, and a dedicated shutter release button. There are two other MotoMods pictured at the back but we’re not sure what they could be, although one of them appears to have a built-in kickstand.

However if we had to speculate, it is possible that one of them is an additional battery pack for the phone, and maybe one could be for storage as well. All is expected to be revealed on the 9th of June, but in the meantime what do you guys make of these accessories? Ya or no?

Now you can build your own Amazon Echo at home

Amazon’s $180 Echo and the new Google Home (due out later this year) promise voice-activated assistants that order groceries, check calendars and perform sundry tasks of your everyday life.

Now, with a little initiative and some online instructions, you can build the devices yourself for a fraction of the cost. And that’s just fine with the tech giants. At this weekend’s Bay Area Maker Faire, Arduino, an open-source electronics manufacturer, announced new hardware “boards”—bundles of microprocessors, sensors, and ports—that will ship with voice and gesture capabilities, along with wifi and bluetooth connectivity.

By plugging them into the free voice-recognition services offered by Google’s Cloud Speech API and Amazon’s Alexa Voice Service, anyone can access world-class natural language processing power, and tap into the benefits those companies are touting.
Amazon has even released its own blueprint and code repository to build a $60 version of its Echo using Raspberry Pi, another piece of open-source hardware. Selling “smart home” hardware is a side-business for Amazon and Google.

The real prize is delivering their services to as many people as possible. Whoever wins the role of personal digital concierge will be in one of the most powerful positions in technology.

For Amazon, this means selling people everything they want to buy. For Google, it’s access to people’s data and attention to better sell advertising. So far, Internet of Things products have fallen flat (at least at home), from toothbrushes that talk to your dentist to diapers that alert you when they need to be changed.

Without compelling uses, the sector’s popularity has spent years on the runway unable to take off. Even the biggest success, Nest Labs’ Thermostat, which sold more than 10 million units last year, has failed to replicate its blockbuster sales with other devices after being bought by Google in 2014 for $3.2 billion.

Big technology companies are now betting that getting a useful IoT hub into millions of homes will let developers (and users) come up with applications that unlock the market. There’s no shortage of companies trying to make that happen.

Open source hardware like Arduino has quickly grown more sophisticated. Prices are coming down, and the power of the chips, ports and connectivity keeps going up.

Companies like Particle.io are selling even more powerful kits to build connected devices for enthusiasts, as well enterprises that lack the expertise to do it from scratch. Perhaps the tinkerers and makers can rescue the Internet of Things from its irrelevance in our homes
